Before You Enable Access Point Mode

Steps to Set Up Linksys Range Extender as Access Point

You can easily configure your extender to the Access Point mode by accessing the Linksys extender setup wizard. Follow the steps given below to enable the Access Point mode on your WiFi device:

1. Switch On Your Extender

Let’s begin with powering up your Linksys WiFi extender. For this, connect it to a wall outlet and press the Power button. Now, wait for the power LED on your extender to stabilize.

If the power LED is blinking or not glowing at all, then you might have plugged your Linksys extender into a damaged wall outlet. So, consider plugging your WiFi device into a non-damaged wall outlet.

2. Connect Your WiFi Devices

As soon as the power LED stabilizes, you are required to connect your Linksys range extender and the router. You can connect both WiFi devices either wirelessly or using an Ethernet cable. A wired connection is considered more stable as it helps in establishing easy communication between the WiFi devices. So, connect them using an Ethernet cable.

But, make sure that the Ethernet cable you’ve chosen to connect the Linksys range extender and the router is damage-free. Furthermore, make the connection finger-tight and secure.

3. Access the Linksys Range Extender Login Page

The next step in line is to log in to your Linksys range extender. So, it is time to turn on your computer. Before accessing the web-based setup page of your WiFi device, ensure to disable the firewall and antivirus software temporarily. Thereafter, open a web browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari, and go to its address bar.

Type the default web address of the Linksys range extender into it and press the Enter key. You will get redirected to the login page of Linksys extender.

4. Log in to Your Linksys Range Extender

On the Linksys extender login page, you will be prompted to enter the login details of your WiFi device. So, fill in the default username and password of your Linksys range extender. But, make sure not to commit typos while doing so as default login credentials are case-sensitive. In addition, turn off the Caps Lock key on your keyboard.

After entering the login details, click the Log In button.

Note: The default login credentials of the Linksys extender won’t be effective if you have ever made changes to them. So, we recommend you enter the changed username and password for the successful Linksys extender login.

5. Enable Access Point Mode

Once you are on the Linksys WiFi setup wizard, look for the Wireless menu. Once found, click it and access the Basic Settings screen. Now, head over to the Operation Mode section and click the Change option.

Thereafter, select the Access Point (Wired Range Extender) option. You can change the settings according to your preference for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency channels. Once done, finish the process by clicking the Change button.

After successfully switching to the Access Point mode, your Linksys WiFi extender will reboot, and devices connected to its network will get disconnected. So, reconnect them in order to surf the internet, stream HD videos, or play online games.
